Sacramento Republic FC travel to Reno, Nev. to take on Liverpool Football Club U21s in a friendly match on Wednesday, May 25. Kickoff is 7 p.m. PDT at Greater Nevada Field.
This will be Republic FC’s second straight friendly match against Liverpool FC U21s. Republic FC won the first matchup 2-1 on Saturday, May 21. Republic FC midfielder Agustin Cazarez and defender James Kiffe both scored goals in the win, while midfielder and former Liverpool FC U21s player Daniel Trickett-Smith made his Republic FC debut.
Cazarez’s goal was his first of the season in all competitions. He also scored twice during the preseason, once against Burlingame Dragons FC on Feb. 17 and then against UC Santa Barbara on Mar. 5. Cazarez scored his only USL goal against Arizona United SC on June 13, 2015.
Kiffe scored his first non-preseason goal with Republic FC since joining the club at the end of the 2014 season. Kiffe scored his only other goal with the club in a preseason match against the Sonoma County Sol on Feb. 27, 2016.
Trickett-Smith made his debut with Republic FC against his former club, Liverpool FC U21s, on Saturday, May 21. Trickett-Smith played the second half recording four shots, including two that were saved by former teammate Lawrence Vigouroux.
Forward Ryan Kent scored the only goal for Liverpool FC U21s on Saturday, May 21. Kent scored three goals and added two assists in 14 appearances with Liverpool FC U21s this season. The 19-year-old made his first team debut in a third round FA Cup match against Exeter City on Jan. 8, 2016.
There are also many links between Liverpool U21s and Republic FC. Defender Lloyd Jones and midfielder Kevin Stewart both played under Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle and were teammates of Republic FC forward Harry Williams at Cheltenham Town FC.
