Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC’s Luis Felipe was nominated for Fan’s Choice Goal of the Week for Week 18. Voting is open now at USLChampionship.com through Thursday, July 14 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
With the end of the match approaching in stoppage time, Republic FC took possession and sent a long ball into the corner, chased down by Rodrigo Lopez. Sacramento’s captain put in a perfect cross, which Luis Felipe crashed the box to meet and headed down over the line to equalize for Sacramento in the final seconds of the match. The score was his fifth of the season across all competitions, and his second of the year in league play with the first also coming against Oakland Roots.
This is the midfielder’s third career nomination for the weekly honor and the second time a Republic FC player has been nominated this season. In 2021, he was nominated twice, winning the fan vote in Week 24 for a long range strike against Tacoma Defiance. Midfielder Damia Viader won the weekly vote earlier this season in Week 14 for his 10th minute score against Detroit City FC on June 11.
Voting for the award is open now at USL Championship.com, and is open now until 9:00 a.m. PT on Thursday, July 14.
