Sacramento, Calif. (April 22, 2023) – Republic FC remains undefeated at the top of the table with a 1-0 victory over Detroit City FC at Heart Health Park on Saturday night. With results from around the league, Sacramento holds on to the top spot in the Western Conference, and claims the best record in the USL Championship with 17 points.
Another stout defensive performance from the entire squad extended the club’s shutout streak, now at five matches. The Indomitable Club kept Detroit City FC without a shot on target for all 90 minutes. The contest also marked Head Coach Mark Briggs 100th match at the helm of Republic FC.
Sacramento was on the board early – the third time the Quails found the net in the first 10 minutes this season. Luis Felipe netted his fourth of the season in the 9th minute off an assist from Russell Cicerone after Jack Gurr served from the right – one of 14 crosses for the club in the first half.
A trio of opportunities in the second half all nearly saw the club double its advantage. Jack Gurr rattled the woodwork the five minutes after the break. Just before the 70-minute mark, two transition opportunities gave Sacramento prime chances in front of goal, but neither would find the back of the net.
Making his first career league start, defender Aldair Sanchez continued his strong form. The open-tryout signee created two scoring chances and won possession seven times to help the club record its fifth straight clean sheet.
Republic FC has a quick turnaround to its next match. On Wednesday, the Indomitable Club hosts regional rival Oakland Roots SC in the U.S. Open Cup Third Round – the first ever tournament contest between the two squads. Tickets for the match are available at SacRepublicFC.com/tickets. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
