Republic FC again controlled possession in the second half, again pressuring the Pittsburgh defense. Republic FC added another goal in the 69th minute. Substitute forward Gabe Gissie played through ball to Adam Jahn, whose was blocked. Jahn would rebound the block and find Lopez at the edge of the box who sidestepped the keeper and sent a laser just below the crossbar for an 3-0 lead.
Republic FC would score twice more in the final ten minutes of the match. In the 84th minute, Republic FC forward Jahn was perfectly positioned on a Lopez corner kick. The ball bounced right to Jahn, who flicked a shot off of keeper Mike Lisch and it deflected into the side netting for the fourth goal of the match.
Lopez would notch his second goal of the match in the 85th minute. Midfielder Octavio Guzman found a wide-open Lopez who wasted no time attacking and he sent a right-footed curling shot from 20 yards out up and over Lisch for the fifth and final goal of the match.
“We needed something like this”, said midfielder Rodrigo Lopez after the barrage of goals. “We’ve been wanting this and we’ve been working hard for it. We opened up the match and created a lot of chances.”
Republic FC will travel to Arizona to take on Arizona United SC on Saturday, August 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The match will be streamed live at www.sacrepublicfc.com/matchday and updates will also be provided on Twitter @SacRepublicFC and using #AZUvSRFC.
