Sacramento Republic FC are on the road again this weekend, but there’s plenty to keep fans busy this week.
Friday, July 8-Sunday, July 24: California State Fair at Cal Expo
The California State Fair kicked off last Friday and is in full swing at Cal Expo. Every year, the fair features music, food, rides, exhibits, animals and much more, ensuring that there is something for everyone.
This year’s attractions include musical and other artistic performances across 12 stages, with performances from Styx, The Pointer Sisters and Joe Nichols, among others. The California State fair also features exhibits such as the California Building Exhibits, the California Forest Center and more.
Friday, July 22 at 5:00 p.m.: Concerts in the Park
Join Republic FC at Cesar Chavez Plaza for Concerts in the Park this Friday, July 22. The Concerts in the Park series is the city’s longest-running, outdoor music festival and has been a part of the Indomitable City for over 20 years. Concerts in the Park attract more than 5,500 fans every Friday night during the four-month concert series, running from May through August. Each year the music festival showcases the talents of local bands, artists and DJs.
This Friday’s edition of the free summer concert series will feature Some Fear None, Cemetery Sun, Sages, The Heartbreak, Time Machine and DJ Oasis, along with food trucks and more.
Saturday, July 23 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.; Sunday, July 24 at 3:00 p.m.: Women’s PremierSoccer League Western Division Regional Championship
Bonney Field will once again host women’s soccer as four teams of the Women’s Premier Soccer League fight for a spot in the 2016 WPSL National Championship.
Saturday will feature the two Western Division semifinal matches. Sacramento’s own WPSL team, the California Storm, will face the San Diego SeaLions in the first matchup of the weekend. Kickoff is 10:30 a.m. The winner of the match will then go up against the winner of the match between Beach Soccer Club and Sounders Women. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
Sunday’s Western Division Regional Championship match will kick off at 3 p.m.
The gates for Bonney Field will open at 9:00 a.m. for the two Saturday matches and at 2 p.m. for the Sunday match. Tickets can be purchased in advance by emailing Jerry Zanelli or calling (916) 718-1925. For walkup purchases, fans may buy a state fair ticket the day of the match, which will double as a ticket to the match that day.
Sunday, July 24 at 2:00 p.m.: Republic FC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 Watch Party
Republic FC continue their five-match road stretch when they travel to Vancouver to face the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. Republic FC will look to continue fighting for a top spot in the USL Western Conference. The top of the Western Conference standings is extremely tight right now, with just three points separating Republic FC from the top spot. Currently Republic FC sit in fourth place with 29 points, while Whitecaps FC 2 sit tied for first with LA Galaxy II at 32 points.
Fans can watch the match at the official Republic FC Watch Party at de Vere’s Irish Pub, located at 1521 L Street. Republic FC’s Elite Camp presented by Raley’s and Bel Air focuses on advanced skills for competitive players who are eager to take their game to the next level.
Players will work with Republic FC coaching staff on technical training and tactical development. Other specialized training includes small-sided games with instruction on developing more skills on the ball with dribbling, passing and shooting. The co-ed camp is open to all competitive players ages 7-12.
