Sacramento Republic FC enter the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 17, when they host FC Anahuac (UPSL) in a Second Round match at Papa Murphy’s Park. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PT. Tickets to the match are still available at Ticketmaster.com.
This is the fourth straight season that Republic FC have participated in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They have advanced past the Second Round in each of the previous three seasons and moved on to the Fourth Round twice, losing only once in the Third Round.
Overall, Republic FC are 5-1-0 in Second and Third Round matches combined, with a goal differential of 25-9. Republic FC have scored at least four goals in four of their six Second and Third Round matches. Republic FC are 3-0-0 in Second Round matches, outscoring their opponents 11-3.

In 2016, Republic FC coasted to a 5-0 victory over CD Aguiluchos USA (UPSL) in their Second Round U.S. Open Cup match on May 18. Republic FC defender Carlos Rodriguez, made his first professional start in the match and scored his first professional goal, a 44th minute header off a corner.
Defender Emrah Klimenta and forward Gabe Gissie have both had success for Republic FC in the U.S. Open Cup. Klimenta scored his first Republic FC goal in a Third Round match against the Fresno Fuego (PDL) on May 28, 2014. Gissie recorded two assists in a Third Round match on May 27, 2015. Coincidentally midfielder Agustin Cazarez, then playing for the Ventura County Fusion (PDL) recorded an assist on the Fusion’s only goal against Republic FC on May 14, 2014. Cazarez would later sign with Republic FC on Aug. 19, 2014.
FC Anahuac is a part of the United Premier Soccer League and is the first amateur team from the state of Nevada to enter the U.S. Open Cup in the modern era of the cup (1995-present). FC Anahuac was originally founded in 1966 by Pedro and Jose Pérez in Oxnard, Calif and were known as Guerreros de Anahuac. In 1991 they moved to Las Vegas, changing their name to FC Anahuac.
FC Anahuac advanced to the Second Round after defeating the Sonoma County Sol (NPSL) 5-4 on penalties after playing to a 1-1 draw in extra time. Prior to their match with the Sol, FC Anahuac had won their previous two qualifying matches by forfeit. In their first qualifying match, their opponents, the Las Vegas Mobsters, did not show up for the match and in their second qualifying match against MF 10, the opponent only fielded a team of eight players which was reduced to six after an injury and red card, causing a forfeit at halftime.
