“I think it was a great three points,” Head Coach Mark Briggs said following the win. “It wasn't a very good performance. We all know that. But at the end of the day, we're walking away with three points. And that's what we came here for. The sign of a good team is to still be able to win when you're done performing best.”
Republic FC’s fixture was the first for a number of new players, as goalkeeper Tomas Gomez, defender Dan Casey, fullback Duke Lacroix, and midfielders Fatai Alashe and Pete Pennanen all made their debuts to Sacramento’s starting eleven. Midfielder Luis Felipe and Tucker Bone also made their first-ever appearances for the Indomitable Club, while Mitchell Taintor returned to SRFC’s starting XI for the first time after spending the 2020 season with San Antonio FC.
The clash between Pacific Division opponents – the first of four regular season meetings this season – saw both sides share the spoils in the first half. Dating back to last season, Republic FC has not allowed a goal during the first 45 minutes in its last four competitive matches.

Late in the second half, Bone joined the lineup in the 80th minute and broke the deadlock two minutes. Later, after Gomez delivered a cross, helping the Sacramento native net his first career goal with Republic FC. The goal would not have been possible without second half substitute Dariusz Formella serving a well-weighted pass through the defense that found the fullback who spotted Bone as he fired home the winning strike.

“Credit to Tomas you know,” coach Briggs said about his ‘keeper after the contest. “Rafa went down with an injury and it opens up opportunity. Tomas has come in and made big saves in big moments and ultimately kept a clean sheet. So it's three points and job well done by everybody.”
