SACRAMENTO, California (June 2, 2021) – A wild back-and-forth night at Heart Health Park on Wednesday saw Sacramento Republic FC and Oakland Roots SC split the points in a 3-3 draw in the first meeting between the two Northern California clubs in franchise history.
The Indomitable Club responded from consecutive shutout defeats to slam three goals by the visiting Roots SC goalkeeper Luis Barraza – recently signed on-loan from MLS-side NYCFC – en route to obtaining a point following the six-goal thriller.

Republic FC held the slight edge in possession for the opening 15 minutes, including Cam Iwasa crossing one into the box for Jordan McCrary in the 15th minute. McCrary’s shot was just wide of the right post.
The Indomitable Club wouldn’t have to wait much longer for a goal, as Cam Iwasa drew a free kick in the 17th minute. Dariusz Formella buried a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner on the free kick placed just inches outside the 18.
Oakland leveled the match in the 26th minute off the right foot of Jesús Enriquez. Roots SC was not finished for the half, pulling ahead 2-1 in the 40th minute courtesy of Ariel Mbumba.
After three goals in 45 minutes, the intensity kicked up with three goals combined for both sides in eight minutes.
