Heading into the contest, Republic FC was already down three players who were called away on international duty, with Kharlton Belmar summoned into Grenada National Team service, Rafa Diaz called-up by the Dominican Republic and Shannon Gomez earning his first World Cup Qualifier call-up with Trinidad and Tobago.
Defender and former Republic FC Academy product Hayden Sargis made his second consecutive start of the 2021 USL Championship season and the traditional centerback lead the team in touches with 89.
Fellow SRFC Academy product Rafael Jauregui made his first appearance on the year when the Sacramento native entered the match as a second half substitute. Another former academy player, Nabi Kibunguchy – on-loan from Minnesota United – also came on a sub and made a heroic defensive play late in the game.
Orange County opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on a play that developed after Ronaldo Dumas put home a ball from close range that batted around in the box.
Orange County doubled its lead out of the halftime gate, as Eero Markkanen put OCSC ahead by two in the 49th minute off the assist from Brent Richards.

Tucker Bone brought the Indomitable Club within a goal in the 60th minute on an assist from Luis Felipe – who finished the night with a team-high five tackles and eight possessions gained. Bone’s right-footed conversion to the bottom left corner was his third goal of the year and first since netting the game-winner against Las Vegas in the home opener.

Bone’s strike was the catalyst for an uptick in play on SRFC’s part on both ends of the pitch. Dumas looked to make it a brace for OCSC off the fast break, but SRFC Academy product Nabi Kibunguchy came up with the clutch tackle down the left side in the 69th minute.
Meanwhile, Republic was able to muster three shots in a two-minute span on the other end. The three were part of an eight-shot second half effort, compared to just two in the first half.
The Indomitable Club will hit the road for two weeks, beginning with a June 9 match at Real Monarchs SLC. Republic FC returns to Heart Health Park on June 26 against Phoenix Rising FC.
