SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Earlier today, Sacramento Republic FC announced two additions to the club’s technical staff for the 2022 season. Danny Dichio will join the Indomitable Club as assistant coach, and Ross Cain joins as goalkeeper coach for the club’s ninth USL Championship season. Per club policy, the terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

“Danny and Ross both bring a lot of experience at the USL Championship level and will make our culture and environment better for everyone,” said Head Coach Mark Briggs.
“I am delighted to be joining a great organization in Republic FC, and am looking forward to the upcoming season,” said Dichio. “I can’t wait to start working with the talented group the club’s front office has assembled this offseason, and bring with me some of the winning culture that I have been a part of the past few years in Toronto.”
“I’d like to thank Todd Dunivant and Mark Briggs for the opportunity to join the club and lead the Sacramento Republic FC goalkeeping department,” notes Ross Cain.
Dichio spent the 2021 season as an assistant coach for Toronto FC II in USL League One under head coach Mike Munoz. Before joining the second team side, he was a head coach for the club’s academy, moving multiple players on to collegiate soccer or the professional ranks. He began his coaching career in 2009 when he joined Toronto FC as a team ambassador and academy coach.
Prior to coaching, Dichio played professionally in his native England, as well as in Ireland, Italy, and with Toronto FC in Major League Soccer. He made his professional debut for Queens Park Rangers, before going on to feature for West Bromich Albion in the EFL Championship, U.C. Sampdoria in Italy’s Serie A, and Sunderland A.F.C. in the Irish Premier League. He joined Toronto FC for their inaugural MLS season in 2007, going on to become a club legend by scoring the first goal in club history against Chicago Fire. He was teammates in Toronto with Republic FC President & General Manager Todd Dunivant in 2007-08.
Cain comes to Sacramento with USL Championship experience from his time as the goalkeeper coach for Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and Sporting Kansas City II. With Pittsburgh, he supported the development of one of the league’s leading goalkeeping units, conceding the fewest scores in the entire league in 2020. Republic FC goalkeeper Danny Vitiello was a member of Cain’s goalkeeping corps during his time with the Riverhounds when he earned the league’s Golden Glove honor.
Most recently, Cain served as Goalkeeping Coach for Chicago FC United of USL League Two during the 2021 season. He spent four seasons coaching in the college ranks, first with his Alma Mater University of Illinois – Chicago from 2015-2017, and for Northern Illinois University in 2018.
