Irvine, Calif. – Republic FC bested Orange County SC 2-0 at Championship Soccer Stadium on Saturday night. The victory moves Republic FC into sole possession of the top spot in the conference standings on 15 points and extends its season-opening unbeaten streak to seven matches. The club also recorded its fourth clean sheet of the season and sits as the only remaining undefeated team in the Western Conference.
Republic FC pulled ahead right away – with Trevor Amann scoring his fifth goal on the season just 15 seconds after the opening kickoff. Off an assist from Rodrigo Lopez, the goal was the fastest in club history, the ninth-fastest in league history, and the fastest goal scored by any player in the USL Championship this season.
Sacramento doubled its advantage midway through the first half when Aldair Sanchez netted the first goal of his professional career. A long cross from Jack Gurr was met by Sanchez and played on the volley over the head of the keeper and into the back of the net for the club’s second goal of the night.
The club continued to push for a third score after doubling its advantage. At the 40-minute mark, a one-touch effort from Jack Gurr snuck through traffic but went just wide of the left post. Trevor Amann nearly bagged another goal in the 56th minute but was denied by the keeper from point-blank range after getting in behind Orange County’s backline.
Sacramento stood tall on the defensive end – keeping Orange County to just a single shot on target for the match. The club’s defensive performance resulted in its fourth clean sheet this season and third shutout in the past four weeks.
Republic FC returns home to Heart Health Park next Saturday for an inter-conference matchup with Loudoun United FC. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live in English and Spanish on FOX40, Antenna TV 40.2, and streaming on FOX40.com, the FOX40 News mobile app and for free on the CBS Sports Golazo network.
