Every year during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month — recognized in September, Republic FC and UC Davis Health team up to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer patients and their families. Through the end of the month, fans can bid on the limited-edition Superhero Keeper Kit – a vibrant blue jersey with a striking red cape on the back – which will be worn by goalkeepers Danny Vitiello and Jared Mazzola during the club’s Marvel Superhero Night match on Sunday, September 29. The auction closes on the Monday following the match at 9 PM. Four winners — two Vitiello kits and two Mazzola kits — will be awarded. All of the proceeds will benefit the Super Fritz & Friends Fund to support families impacted by childhood cancer.
Marvel Superhero Night presented by UC Davis Health will be a special Sunday match that honors true superheroes – the children and families battling childhood cancer, as well as the healthcare workers who support them. Kids are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superheroes and join the halftime Strive for 45 Run. Special in-stadium appearances from beloved superheroes will add to the fun, and the first 1,000 kids will receive a superhero cape courtesy of UC Davis Health. On the field, Danny Vitiello and Jared Mazzola will take the field in their exclusive Superhero Keeper Kit. The field will be dressed with gold nets and corner flags — the color connected to the fight against childhood cancer. Tickets for the match are available now at SacRepublicFC.com/tickets.
About Super Fritz and Friends Fund
Fritz was diagnosed with Leukemia at age two and went on to receive treatment at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. During his treatment, Fritz was given the nickname “Super Fritz” after continuously displaying a can-do and energetic attitude. To show their gratitude for his care, Fritz’s parents and friends established the Super Fritz & Friends fund in 2019 to subsidize a new staff position that would enhance resources for families battling pediatric cancer. The fund met its original goal in November 2021, and now works to fund additional services – including lodging assistance, insurance coordination, and financial aid for essential needs like groceries and transportation.
