Republic FC saw many early chances but were unable to convert despite putting two shots off the crossbar. Republic FC goalkeeper Jake Gleeson made a kick save in the 17th minute on a breakaway opportunity from Hammerheads FC forward Sunny Jane.

Republic FC finally broke through in the 40th minute when midfielder Max Alvarez sent the cross into the box. Defender Nemanja Vuković fired a shot into the goal from short range putting Republic FC ahead 1-0.

The equalizer from Ochoa inspired Republic FC who needed just six minutes to put themselves back into the lead. In the 64th minute Rodrigo Lopez took a corner that found defender Mickey Daly in the air. Daly redirected the ball off of a Hammerheads FC defender’s back and into the net for a 2-1 lead.

With the crowd still buzzing Republic FC doubled there lead in the 67th minute. Second-half substitute Octavio Guzman sent a cross to the far post to Daly who sent a redirecting header back across the face of goal. An unmarked Vuković cleaned up the play with a header for his second of the match and a 3-1 lead.

Republic FC scored again in the 88th minute after defender James Kiffe sent a cross over the keeper’s head to an unmarked Adam Jahn who put away the fourth and final goal of the match into the empty net.

“I think this team really deserved this”, said Vuković following the match. “It doesn’t matter who scores, I am just happy. I hope we keep playing and advancing.”

With the win Republic FC advances to the USL PRO Semifinals where they will host LA Galaxy II on Saturday, September 20. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. with gates at Bonney Field opening at 6:30 p.m.

Republic FC came out of the gates strong, pressuring the Wilmington defense and creating opportunities. The first strong chance for Republic FC came in the 4th minute when midfielder Max Alvarez controlled the ball in the middle of the field then sent a ball wide right where it was immediately swung back in front of goal. Forward Adam Jahn took a run at the ball, but it was just past his sliding try and was saved by Wilmington goalkeeper Brad Stuver.

Republic FC would again challenge Stuver in the 36th minute when defender James Kiffe sent a cross into the middle of the box. The ball was cleared by Wilmington, but right to the feet of midfielder Rodrigo Lopez who gave the ball up to Jahn who slid the ball into fellow forward Chad Bartlomé in the middle of the box. Bartlomé settled the ball and sent a rocket towards goal, but it went just over the bar.

In the 40th minute Alvarez was fouled in the middle of the field setting up a long free kick. Lopez and Alvarez both stood over the ball but it was Alvarez who sent a line drive shot toward the upper right corner of the goal forcing Stuver to make and incredible diving save keeping the score 0-0 going into the half.

The attack looked to be going one-on-one with Gleeson again, but Kiffe made a strong run from behind the play and was able deflect the ball out of bounds at the last second.

"We felt like we really should have put them away in the first half and ultimately, are very disappointed with this result," said Bartlomé following the match. "That being said, we still feel very positive about the way are playing and are looking forward to our last two matches of the season at home in front of our amazing crowd."

The scoreless draw is the second for Republic FC this season and the second of their nine-match unbeaten streak. The shutout was the fifth for Gleeson who lowered his goals against average to below zero and has allowed just three goals in his last seven appearances.

Jahn faked a shot allowing the ball to roll to Octavio Guzman who found Jahn making a run behind the defense. Jahn then sent the ball back across the face of goal for Guzman who put the ball on net, only to have it deflected out. Republic FC midfielder Rodrigo Lopez was in perfect position and he sent a side-volley screamer just inside the far post and into the side netting for a 1-0 lead.

The lead would not last long as Charleston would tie the match in the 16th minute. Midfielder Jose Cuevas sent a free kick into the box from 25 yards out and the ball found defender Colin Falvey unmarked who headed it past Republic FC keeper Jake Gleeson to tie the score 1-1.

Lopez tacked on his second goal of of the half in the 25th minute. Lopez sent a confident strike from 20 yards out past a stationary Cooper and into the corner of the net for a 2-1 lead for Republic FC that would hold into halftime. The goal marked the 7th time Lopez has scored at Bonney Field and his third brace of the year.

Republic FC tallied first in the 15th minute of the match. Forward Thomas Stewart ran down a Justin Braun through ball headed towards the keeper. Stewart had just enough time to flick the ball past a charging Wilmington keeper Brad Stuver as it rolled into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead for Republic FC. The goal was Stewart’s team-leading 11th in USL PRO play.

The 1-0 lead would hold into halftime. Republic FC keeper Dominik Jakubek was called to make a few important saves in the second half. In the 61st minute Hammerheads FC striker Sammy Ochoa took a through ball in stride to get past the defense and sent a bullet shot at goal. With the win Republic FC extended their unbeaten streak to seven and moved to within one point in the USL PRO standings of the second place Richmond Kickers. Republic FC will look to increase their unbeaten streak on Wednesday, August 27 when they take on the Charleston Battery at Bonney Field. Forward Adam Jahn headed the rebound toward goal but it was deflected out to Emrah Klimenta whose rebound shot was blocked again by Perez, but the rebound found the left foot of Vuković who blasted a shot into the back of the net and putting Republic FC up 1-0.

Orange County captain Allan Russell was brought down inside the box by Republic FC defender Mickey Daly forcing a penalty kick. Russell stepped up and sent a low liner into the bottom left of the goal past a diving Dominik Jakubek who guessed right but was unable to block the shot.

Klimenta then sent a lofted cross toward the far post where Alvarez headed the ball back to the middle to an onrushing Jahn who used a jumping kick to put Republic FC up 3-1. Alvarez’s two assists moves him to six in USL PRO play, second most for Republic FC.

In the 61st minute forward Thomas Stewart entered the match and wasted no time at all scoring his first goal in the 68th minute. Stewart received a pass from midfielder Rodrigo Lopez on the left side of the field. Stewart then dribbled down the left side before stopping and sending an improbable ball into the upper left corner of the goal past a stunned Perez.

Stewart would strike again four minutes later in the 72nd minute. Stewart was able to get by the defense and send a low ball past Perez and into the lower right corner of the net. The goal stretched Republic FC’s lead to 5-1.

Stewart would complete the first hat trick in Republic FC history and the fifth in USL PRO this season in the 90th minute. Stewart received a pass from fellow substitute forward Gabe Gissie before driving the ball down the left side of the pitch. Stewart then stopped, brought the ball to his right foot and sent a rolling ball into the far post.

“It a great honor. It’s my job to score and it a very nice achievement” said Stewart about being the first Republic FC player to score a hat trick. “We dominated the game. It was a disappointment to concede the penalty but we responded well to goal, now the biggest thing is concentration. We want to get as high as we can in the league to gain home field advantage.”

With the win tonight Republic FC clinched a playoff spot in their inaugural season and won their league-leading seventh road match of the season.

Substitute forward Gabe Gissie played through ball to Adam Jahn, whose was blocked. Jahn would rebound the block and find Lopez at the edge of the box who sidestepped the keeper and sent a laser just below the crossbar for an 3-0 lead.

Republic FC would score twice more in the final ten minutes of the match. In the 84th minute, Republic FC forward Jahn was perfectly positioned on a Lopez corner kick.
