Fortunately for the boys in Old Glory Red, El Tri is still headed to the top league next week but first, the team will compete in Friday’s third place matchup at 4:30 p.m. PT against Charleston Battery – playing as Greece. In charge of Mexico for Thursday’s match was Republic FC goalkeeper Rafael Diaz as he was up against Locomotive FC forward Alexy Bosetti who punished Las Vegas Light FC’s Uruguayan-side 5-1 the day before.
The match was tense throughout its entirety, until Giovani Lo Celso buried a header from point-blank to lift Argentina to a 1-0 lead. Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa made a number of dazzling saves on the day, but this one was simply impossible to stop.
