Sacramento Republic FC Re-Sign Defender James Kiffe

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (February 6, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with James Kiffe for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. Kiffe rejoins Republic FC for his fourth season with the club.

“I am really pleased that we have been able to bring James back for this season,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “I feel that last season he was a very important part of the team. He had his best season both defending and attacking last year and I believe there is more to come from him.”

Kiffe has made 57 USL appearances with Republic FC since joining the club near the end of the 2014 season. He is third all-time in Republic FC history for appearances and his 4,641 USL minutes trail only fellow defender Emrah Klimenta for the club all-time lead.

The defender made 29 USL appearances in 2016, scoring a goal and adding five assists, second most on the club. Kiffe’s goal, scored against Oklahoma City Energy FC on Aug. 2, 2016, was a match-winning goal and was his first as a professional. Kiffe played collegiately at UC Santa Barbara, making 45 appearances over three seasons. He scored three goals and added 11 assists in college.

Sacramento Republic FC Sign Proven Scorer Trevin Caesar

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (January 4, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with Trevin Caesar for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. Caesar joins Republic FC after leading Orange County Blues FC in scoring in 2016.

“Trevin is a player that we took serious note of last season,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He has electric pace and scored in the double figures in 2016. He is a player that will bring something different to our front line and I am excited to see him join our club.”

Caesar has been a USL standout for the last two years, leading Orange County Blues FC in scoring in the 2016 season and sharing the club lead in goals in 2015 while playing for the Austin Aztex. In 2016, Caesar made 26 USL appearances for the Blues, scoring 10 goals including a brace in their final regular season match. In 2015, he made 27 USL appearances for the Aztex, scoring nine goals.

The forward is a regular member of the Trinidad and Tobago National Team. Caesar has made six appearances for the Soca Warriors, scoring two goals.

Sacramento Republic FC Sign Midfielder Jeremy Hall

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (January 3, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with Jeremy Hall for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. Hall joins Republic FC after playing with the club on loan from the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2016.

“We are delighted to bring Jeremy back permanently,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “His loan was a major success last season. He is very consistent and has great experience and will be an important part of our midfield.”

Hall made 12 appearances for Republic FC in 2016 while on loan, including 11 USL appearances and a USL playoff appearance. Hall originally signed with the Rowdies on Feb. 8, 2016 and was loaned to Republic FC on July 21. He did make an appearance for the Rowdies.

Prior to last season, Hall played seven seasons in MLS with the New York Red Bulls, Portland Timbers, FC Dallas, Toronto FC and New England Revolution. He made 127 appearances in his seven MLS seasons including 108 starts. Hall scored two goals and recorded six assists in 9,782 career MLS minutes.

Hall has also made three appearances with the Puerto Rico Men’s National Team. Most recently he started and played a full 90 minutes against the United States Men’s National Team on May 22, 2016. He is one of two players on the Republic FC roster to serve on a national team joining teammate Emrah Klimenta on the list who played for Montenegro National Team.

Sacramento Republic FC Sign Midfielder Adam Moffat

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (January 3, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with vastly experienced MLS and NASL player Adam Moffat for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. Moffat joins Republic FC after spending the 2016 season with the New York Cosmos (NASL).

“Adam is someone that we pursued for quite a while,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He has something that we need in the middle of the pitch; he is strong, consistent and has experience. He can score goals from distance which adds another dimension to our midfield.”

Moffat made 42 appearances with the New York Cosmos in the last two seasons, scoring a total of 10 goals and recording an assist. In 2016, he made 22 appearances for the Cosmos, scoring a career-high eight goals, second most on the Cosmos in 2016. The midfielder made over 130 MLS appearances playing with the Columbus Crew, Portland Timbers, Houston Dynamo, Seattle Sounders FC and FC Dallas over eight MLS seasons. Moffat scored 12 MLS goals and recorded six MLS assists.

Moffat was instrumental in the Dynamo’s 2012 MLS Cup run, scoring a goal and recording an assist during the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs, while starting all six matches. He recorded the assist on the Dynamo’s lone goal in the 2012 MLS Cup, a lofted ball that got behind the LA Galaxy’s backline and allowed Calen Carr to hammer home the goal, temporarily putting Houston ahead.

Sacramento Republic FC Midfielder JJ Koval Announces Retirement

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (December 21, 2016) – Sacramento Republic FC midfielder JJ Koval announced his retirement from professional soccer through the club today. In conjunction with his retirement, Koval was released from the remainder of his contract with Republic FC by mutual consent of the club and player.

“We are disappointed to lose JJ, but we completely respect his decision,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He played much of last season with an injury and still made an impact for us. We were looking forward to him coming back with full fitness this year. That being said, he was a delight to work with, he is following his heart and we wish him every success in the future.”

Koval appeared in 30 matches for Republic FC in all competitions this season, including 27 USL matches. He scored his lone goal of the season against Saint Louis FC on Aug. 13. Also, Koval was loaned to Republic FC, through their MLS affiliation with the San Jose Earthquakes, during the 2014 and 2015 season, making three total appearances on loan with Republic FC, scoring a goal.

Koval was the number nine overall pick by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. He appeared in 39 matches in two seasons with the Quakes, starting 16. Koval was the tenth player in Quakes’ history to make 20 or more appearances in his rookie season.

Sacramento Republic FC Re-Sign Daniel Trickett-Smith and Christian Chaney

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (December 20, 2016) – Sacramento Republic FC signed new contracts with Daniel Trickett-Smith and Christian Chaney for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval.

“We are happy to have Daniel and Christian back with us for next season,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle.

Trickett-Smith originally signed with Republic FC on May 19, 2016, right before they played his former club, Liverpool FC U21s, in a pair of friendly matches. Trickett-Smith made 14 appearances for Republic FC, including eight USL appearances. He scored two goals, including one against his former team, and added an assist.

“Dan showed us last season that he can do almost anything with the ball at his feet," said Buckle. "He is a very exciting player and we have high hopes that the 2017 season will be a successful one for Dan.”

A Fresno native, Chaney joined Republic FC on Aug. 12, 2016, after playing with the Fresno Fuego in the 2016 USL PDL season. Chaney was the top rated prospect in the PDL as rated by USLPDL.com. He scored 13 goals and added an assist in 12 PDL matches last season with the Fuego. Chaney was the PDL’s second leading scorer in 2016. Prior to playing with the Fuego, Chaney was a former All-American at Fresno City College. He appeared in Republic FC’s final match of the season against CD Guadalajara on Oct. 5, coming on as a substitute and playing 35 minutes.

“Christian is a player that joined us at the end of the season,” said Buckle. “He is of good age, a young player that is strong, powerful and can score goals. He has a lot of work to do on his game and he comes in as a developmental prospect, but I think that he has the tools to break into our first team sooner rather than later.”

Sacramento Republic FC Re-Signs Wilson Kneeshaw

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (December 14, 2016) – Sacramento Republic FC have signed a new contract with Wilson Kneeshaw for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. The forward will commence his first full USL season with Republic FC in 2017.

“Wilson is a very exciting player and showed us last year that he has an eye for the goal,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He is still fairly young and showed enough positive signs that he can be a big success for us. Next season will be a big one, as he will look to establish himself as a first team regular.”

Originally signing with Republic FC on Aug. 11, 2016, Kneeshaw impressed in just five substitute appearances. He scored three goals, tied for fourth-most on the club in 2016. Kneeshaw was also incredibly efficient, taking just four shots to score his three goals. The forward previously played professionally in England and Romania after coming through the ranks of the Middlesbrough FC Academy.

Sacramento Republic FC Re-Sign Elliott Hord

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (December 13, 2016) – Sacramento Republic FC have signed a new contract with Elliott Hord for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. The defender will commence his first full USL season with Republic FC in 2017.

“I am really pleased with the signing of Elliott,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He came in at a difficult time after we lost Emrah, he had to prove himself, and he did just that. He had some really great performances last season, and they showed me that he has the quality to challenge for a first team spot.”

Hord joined Republic FC on Aug. 19, 2016, and he made his debut as a substitute against Orange County Blues FC on Aug. 24. The defender made seven appearances for Republic FC in 2016, including the club’s playoff match. Hord recorded his first professional assist against the Blues on Sept. 3, a match-winning assist, and he earned USL Team of the Week honors for the performance. Previously, Hord played with the Fresno Fuego (PDL) and Swedish third division club Yxhults IK after graduating from UC Davis.

Hord is one of four Republic FC players, to-date, that have participated in the club’s open tryouts. The others are defender Emrah Klimenta, midfielder Max Alvarez, and forward Mackenzie Pridham. Sacramento Republic FC Sign Sierra Leone Native Lamin Suma

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (December 5, 2016) – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with Lamin Suma for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. Suma joins Republic FC after spending the 2016 season with the Philadelphia Fury of the American Soccer League.

“Lamin is an exciting player who will bring to our club speed and the ability to score goals,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He possesses all of the attributes that we look for in a wing player and after doing our due diligence we decided he would be a great fit. We know he has a lot of potential and we are excited to begin working with him.”

A native of Sierra Leone, Suma began his career in 2010 in his home country with Mighty Blackpool FC of the Sierra Leone National Premier League. Suma also played with FC Kallon before moving FK Jagodina, a Serbian second division club. While with FK Jagodina, Suma was loaned to Montenegro first division club FK Jedinstvo Bijelo Polje. After his stint at FK Jagodina, Suma joined FC Flora, where he scored four goals in nine appearances in the first and second Estonian divisions.

After his successful stint with FC Flora, Suma moved to Atlantis FC, a Finnish third division club, where he played the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Most recently, Suma played in the United States with the Philadelphia Fury, an American Soccer League club. He scored two goals in the ASL spring season while helping the Fury to the best record in the ASL.

Forward Gabe Gissie Returns to Sacramento Republic FC Roster

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (December 3, 2016) – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with Mawolo “Gabe” Gissie for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. Gissie rejoins Republic FC, where he played from 2014-2015, after spending the 2016 USL season with Bethlehem Steel FC.

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Gabe back to the club,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “I was disappointed when he chose to move on after the 2015 season, so when he became available we began discussing bringing him back. I think he has huge potential and we are very excited to see him back with the club.”

Gissie was one of Republic FC’s first signings, and their youngest, when he joined the club on February 11, 2014 at just 17 years, 80 days old. He appeared in 22 USL matches in two seasons for Republic FC, scoring a goal and recording two assists. Gissie became the youngest goal scorer in Republic FC history with his first professional goal, scored against Oklahoma City Energy FC on June 20, 2015 when he was 18 years, 209 days old.

A Liberia native, Gissie immigrated to the United States in 2008 as a refugee of the Second Liberian Civil War. Gissie moved to Massachusetts, where he went through the ranks of the New England Revolution Academy, before leaving to join Republic FC in 2014. Gissie remains the youngest player to sign a contract with Republic FC.
